Cal Farley's Boys Ranch
The Rotary Club of Amarillo has a long tradition and continuing relationship with Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. Each year at Christmas, The Rotay club of Amarillo donates funds to help Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch with general operating expenses.
History Cal Farley, “the big hearted man of action”, served as Club President of The Rotary Club of Amarillo in 1938-39. One of the great achievements during this year, with the backing of The Club and other Amarillo community minded people, Farley’s vigorous leadership resulted in the establishment of the Maverick Club for Boys. Boys Ranch also had its modest beginnings in 1939.
Cal Farley served as Rotary District Governor in 1941-42 where he brought foremost distinction to the District.
Under the inspiration of 1944-45 Club President George “Pinky” Vineyard, The Club began a campaign to raise $15,000 cash for much needed improvements at Boys Ranch, especially for the construction of a large dining hall.
During 1944-45, Club President John McCarty completed the $15,000 Boys Ranch campaign drive.
During the reign of Club President George Waddill in 1946-47, the notable practice of making Club Christmas funds available to the boys at Boys Ranch was instituted. This resulted in considerable expansion at the Ranch and continues to endow the ranchers with material happiness each Christmas season.
