Mentoring Program - Red to Blue Badge
A number of experienced Rotarians have been carefully selected by the New Member Orientation Committee to comprise a team of Mentors, each of whom would be assigned specific duties designed to help new members complete their training in an enjoyable and brief period of time. The progress of new members wll be measured by a check list of activities developed by the Committee.
Red badgers Shara Hinchey & Paul Strouhal check in members as a part of red badge to blue badge requirements. Former Rotarians joining a new club will be given the option of checking off activities previously done, but will be urged to proceed with the greeting and head table functions, and to present a classification talk.
Mentors might be assigned one or two new members to guide through their first year in Rotary. You can expect them to help you in the following ways.
- Meet with you; review the Check List of Activities ; explain each item as necessary; encourage you to proceed with Check List of Activities.
- Periodically meet with you and review progress on the check list, offer suggestions, offer to facilitate, and offer encouragement.
- Record accomplishments of your activities on the checklist.
- Facilitate opportunities for you to perform, ie., with head table, check-in committee, program chairman, and your place of business visitation.
- See that you meets other members. You will be advised and encouraged to sit at different tables each week. There are no members in this club who would not enjoy meeting you.
- You will get help on how to be a greeter at the check-in table, how to make up a missed meeting, why you should wear your Rotary pin, and how to select a club committee to work on.
- You will be shown the usefulness of the Official Directory.
New members who are immediately involved in the programs of the club are much easier to move through the check list of activities than members who have been members of the club for several months prior to their involvement in it. We hope you will become familiar with club activities early on and push for involvement in them.
